Wayside Recovery offers supervised internship placements that meet relevant requirements for LADC, LPCC, LCSW, and LMFT. 
Wayside Recovery works collaboratively and in an integrated way for clients to receive the highest level of services. Hard work, collaboration, supported learning, and growth are crucial to students’ success during internship with Wayside Recovery.
Students will be placed with licensed counselors with varying clinical interests. Students will assist clients in identifying issues and avenues for change through group and individual work while receiving support through supervision and didactic training.
Internship Components
Internship with Wayside Recovery is primarily comprised of individual and group therapy experience with clients who have co-occurring substance use and/or mental health disorders. At Wayside Recovery, internship involves client contact and experience in the following areas:
  • Gain experience in all 12 core functions
  • Facilitate chemical dependency process groups
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups
  • Individual sessions
  • Complete Comprehensive Assessments
For practicum students seeking mental health training, experience will be gained in the following ways:
  • Facilitate mental health groups
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Diagnostic Assessments
Requirements
  • Students will be enrolled at an accredited school and have completed all coursework required by their academic program to begin
  • Follow all ethical and professional standards of their applicable boards
  • Commit to a regular schedule as agreed upon with someone on the Internship team
Supervision/Meetings
  • Individual, face-to-face supervision weekly
  • Group supervision for mental health practicum students
  • Weekly staffing with a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Didactic trainings as scheduled
What is the schedule and hours for students?
Hours available are Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm within our Residential Programs. Hours available for Intensive Outpatient Programming are Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm and we have limited availability for evening hours in our IOP evening programming that consists of Monday – Thursday 1pm – 9pm and Friday 10am – 2pm.  
What are the tasks involved with an internship/practicum?
Students typically facilitate groups and individual sessions, complete intakes/comprehensive assessments, complete paperwork, attend multidisciplinary staffing, and complete diagnostic assessments (if dual).
What kinds of clients would I be working with?
Clients at Wayside Recovery are adult women, pregnant and women with children who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Many have also been diagnosed with a co-occurring mental health disorder.
